What does the policy cover?
1. Your legal liabilities to third parties. This includes:
- Damage to property not owned by you
- Bodily injury or death to another person
- The most we will pay for any one incident is £3 million
2. The cost of raising, removing or destroying your vessel if it becomes a wreck
- The cost of removal of wreck is £15,000
3. Accidental pollution related clean up costs
- The cost associated with pollution clean up is covered under the policy
What does the policy not cover?
- Loss or damage to your vessel
- Liabilities while your vessel is in transit by road. This should be covered by your motor insurer.
- Any commercial activity
- Racing
If I lend my boat to a friend, will they be covered under the policy?
- Yes, provided they are doing so with your permission and you are confident in their ability.
What do I do if I sell my boat?
- Please get in contact with Navigators & General to advise us that you have sold your boat and we will cancel your policy on receipt of the communication and refund any return premium due.
What do I do if I buy a replacement boat?
- You will need to advise Navigators & General immediately of the change in interest.
Will I be able to change my contact details online?
What do I do if I lose my certificate?
Is damage to my boat covered, or can I extend this policy?
No, it covers you against claims made by third parties and passengers only.
Is Third Party only Insurance a legal requirement?
- Not everywhere, but you will require it to moor, use, race and store your boat in certain areas
Do I need a survey prior to cover?
- No, surveys are not required
Does cover include fire, theft or attempted theft?
- No, it covers you against claims made by third parties and passengers only
Who is responsible for removal and destruction of wreckage if my boat sinks or is destroyed?
- We will pay up to £15,000.00 towards these costs
Am I covered to use my boat outside the UK?
- No, cover is limited to UK waters and UK residents only
Am I covered if I live on my boat?
- No, houseboat use is excluded
Am I covered for racing?
- No, cover for all forms of racing is excluded
Are Jet skis or personal watercraft covered?
- No, we do not insure this type of craft
Am I covered to use my boat by road?
- No, insurance for towing will usually be covered under your motor policy
Am I covered to use my boat in coastal waters?
- Yes, provided you have selected that level of cover and paid the correct premium
Am I covered for waterskiing?
- Yes, provided you have selected that level of cover and paid the correct premium
Are there restrictions on the type of boat and usage that you will cover?
- Yes, you should see the restrictions on the website (link to this page)
Am I covered to tow other vessels?
- No, There is no cover for any commercial activity, liability cover will not extend to other boats you tow
Am I covered whilst using other boats?
- Yes, provided they are not insured under another policy
Can I pay by Instalments?
- No, the premium all has to be paid in full
Will I get a no claims discount at renewal?
- The policy does not renew, you will be e mailed an expiry note and should then start a new 12 month cover period
Will I be able to renew the policy online?
- You can't renew the policy online but you can take out a new policy and have immediate cover in five easy steps.
